At The Green Landscapes, we frequently collaborate with clients across Brisbane who face constraints on outdoor greenery—whether due to apartment living or commercial settings such as restaurants and venues. With limited outdoor space, greenery can often feel like an afterthought—but it doesn’t have to be. The right plants can soften interiors, improve air quality, and create a stronger connection to nature, even in challenging environments.

We were fortunate to collaborate with Gerard’s Restaurant, a celebrated venue in Fortitude Valley, as they prepared to reopen with a new fit-out in late 2023. Working closely with the owners and architect Jared Webb of J.AR Office, we helped incorporate greenery as a key design element. The project went on to receive Best of State Commercial Design (QLD) and Best Restaurant Design, recognised for its originality and immersive approach.

One of the biggest challenges was the restaurant’s very limited natural light, which meant plant selection had to be carefully considered. The ponytail palm was chosen as a key feature, offering sculptural form while thriving in lower-light conditions. This balance between aesthetics and practicality was central to our discussions with the client, ensuring the greenery became an integral part of the space.

Whether in homes, restaurants, or workplaces, greenery has the power to transform a space. If you're looking to introduce plants into your environment—no matter the constraints—get in touch with The Green Landscapes to explore what’s possible.
